HISTORY

Learn about the history of the land, its settlers and log cabin (c.1766)

South Dominion is a New York State Grown & Certified, family owned and operated vineyard nestled in the rolling hills of Cambridge, NY – a small town in Washington County located in the recently established American Viticultural Area, the Upper Hudson. South Dominion tends, harvests, and ferments wine from six varietals of cold hardy grapes that were developed by crossing French and wild American grape varietals to withstand the extreme cold winters characteristic of upstate New York.

Residing on land that has been continuously farmed for nearly 260 years, South Dominion planted 2.5 acres of hybrid vines in 2016 and had its first harvest in 2018. The brand’s wines are crafted with old world winemaking techniques, employing the use of oaking and blending to produce a wine rich in color, nose, body, taste, and finish. The Winery at South Dominion provides wine tastings in our two tasting rooms located on the property. The newly constructed post & beam production facility hosts a tasting room on the first floor and a book store and vinyl library in the loft. The vineyard’s meticulously restored 1766 log house, recognized by the Washington County Historical Society as an historic landmark, is available for tastings by appointment only.

The tasting room is open seasonally from early May through late November.

Hours are Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 5 PM.
